Schuyler Mansion was the Albany home of Philip Schuyler, his wife Catharine Van Rensselaer, and their extensive family. Philip Schuyler served as Major General of the Northern Department, Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and United States Senator. Built between 1761 and 1765, the home was the center of their estate and the site of conferences and entertaining during the Revolution, including Elizabeth Schuyler’s marriage to Alexander Hamilton in 1780. Today, visitors can view the restored rooms of the 1760s Georgian mansion, including the library where many of his military books and correspondence were kept while the building was used as his 1776 military headquarters.
