Saratoga National Historic Park

Since becoming a National Historical Park in 1941, Saratoga has preserved and interpreted over 3,000 acres of one of the greatest victories of the Revolutionary War. From September to October of 1777 this site witnessed 2 pitched battles as General John Burgoyne’s British army collided with American forces under General Horatio Gates, and Benedict Arnold. Bloodied, isolated, and outnumbered the British surrendered on October 17, 1777 giving the Americans a signal victory, paving the way for foreign recognition of the United States, and representing a turning point in world history. The site includes the two battlefields, the surrender site, the Saratoga Monument, and Philip Schuyler’s country house and includes a recently renovated an improved tour road.
