Fought on August 6, 1777, the Battle of Oriskany was one of the bloodiest and most vicious battles of the American Revolution. It was also one of the most personal, pitting Patriots against Loyalists while Haudenosaunee warriors fought on both sides, further splitting the Six Nations apart. Designated as a state historic site in 1927, the site includes a towering monument to the battle erected in 1884.
