Following the American Evacuation of Ticonderoga and Mount Independence the British Advanced Corps caught up to the retreating American rear at Hubbardton, Vermont. The fierce engagement that followed on July 7, 1777, the only Revolutionary War battle fought entirely in the state, resulted in an American retreat, but bought vital time for Continental forces to escape and regroup. The outstandingly preserved battlefield, of the nation’s most untouched Revolutionary War sites, commands unparalleled views of the Green Mountains and preserves one of the nation’s oldest Revolutionary War Monuments.
