Originally home to Mohawk settlements the village of Fort Plain became a strategic stronghold during the American Revolution with the construction of Fort Plain in 1779, a critical defensive position helping protect the valley from British and Loyalist forces. Today, the Fort Plain Museum & Historical Park, uses exhibits, artifacts, and research bring to life the stories of its Native American heritage, Revolutionary War significance, and 19th-century development.
