At the scenic foot of Lake George, the remains of the stone bastion of Fort George sites atop some of the most historic ground in New York State. The site of one of the earliest battles of the French and Indian War, the location was occupied throughout the Revolution. It supported Henry Knox’s movement of artillery from Lake Champlain in 1775 through its attack by the British as late as 1780. Exhibits in the park Visitor Center and markers on the grounds highlight its history, which includes: The Battle of Lake George (1755), the first significant victory for the British over the French in the French & Indian War. The Park and its Visitor Center interpret this extensive history through exhibits, trails, monuments, and markers.
