Crown Point State Historic Site preserves the ruins of two generations of colonial military fortifications and a critical site of occupation during the Revolutionary War. The French Fort Saint-Frédéric and the later, massive British fortifications were both ruins by the time it was capture on May 11, 1775. The position’s prominence and strategic value lead to occupation and new fortifications by American, and later British forces in 1776 and 1777. Visitors today can experience generations of 18th century military architecture, artifacts recovered from the grounds, and sweeping views of Lake Champlain and Chimney Point in Vermont.
