The Colonial Wars at Lake George: A conference by John DiNuzzo, President, Board of Trustees, Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance
John DiNuzzo, leader of the non-profit organization which cares for the “hallowed grounds” that witnessed repeated military engagements during two key wars in North America during the 18th Century, will delve into the rich historical significance of the Lake George Battlefield Park and surrounding waterways to Great Britian, France, Indian nations, and, ultimately, the United States of America. Central to the presentation is the pivotal Battle of Lake George in 1755, marking a crucial early triumph for the British over the French during the global Seven Years’ War. Fort George, erected by General Jeffery Amherst in 1759, was the nexus of ongoing concern in the region until it was finally destroyed by British Major Christopher Carleton in 1780 as part of his raid on Continental forces during the American Revolution. John will also highlight the current project in the Battlefield Park to reinter the remains of 44 Continental soldiers and support personnel who perished at Lake George in 1776.
