Special 250th Conference “Arnold’s Defeat or Ultimate Victory? Perspectives on the 1776 Campaign”

October 9, 2026 - October 11, 2026 • Fort Ticonderoga

On the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Valcour Island Fort Ticonderoga will host a distinguished panel of scholars to reflect on the campaign of 1776 on Lake Champlain. The failure of the British to seize Ticonderoga in the fall of 1776 was a critical, vital victory for the Americans in the early years of the Revolutionary War—acknowledged even at the time. But who gets the credit for the year’s victory? Benedict Arnold and his lake fleet? Horatio Gates and the defenses of Ticonderoga and Mount Independence? Sharing new perspectives and new research from a variety of disciplines, our panelists will detail, and debate, the critical actions of the campaign to better understand the impact of October 1776.

REAL TIME REVOLUTION® Living History Event: Veteran’s Day Weekend

November 7, 2026 • Fort Ticonderoga

Salute veterans service in the defense of the United States, beginning with the citizen-soldiers of 1776. The Continental Army at Ticonderoga gave hope to this new nation with their victory over the British Army on October 28, 1776, beginning their long watch over the winter to come. In this one-day living history event, witness the drive to reenlist veterans for campaigns to come and the challenge to prepare Ticonderoga’s defenses for the next year.

Regional tensions within the Continental Army explode in this event, as Pennsylvanians turn on their fellow New England soldiers. The riot between, ‘Yankees,’ and, ‘Buckskins,’ will be dramatically recreated, revealing the humanity of soldiers willing to stand up for liberty.
